Welcome to Karen's Corner, where we explore the freshest and most delightful fruits and vegetables each month.
Welcome back to Karen's Corner!
June is here, and with it comes the exciting start of our local
growing season. There's nothing quite like the taste of fresh, locally
grown produce, and I'm thrilled to share that our markets are beginning
to brim with early-season delights.
What's Fresh This Month?
As the days get longer and warmer, we've started to see some wonderful greens and veggies making their debut:
- Baby Spinach: Tender, delicate, and perfect for salads or a quick sauté.
- Beet Greens: Don't toss those tops! Beet greens are nutrient-packed and great in smoothies, salads, or lightly cooked.
- Baby Kale: These young leaves are less bitter than their mature counterparts and can be enjoyed raw or cooked.
- Baby Arugula: Adds a peppery punch to any dish, whether you're making a salad, sandwich, or even a pizza.
- Radishes: Crisp and spicy, they're fantastic for snacking, salads, or pickling.
What to Look Forward To
As the weather continues to warm up, we'll soon see even more hardy vegetables coming into season. Expect to find:
- Lettuce: Crisp and refreshing, perfect for summer salads.
- Peas: Sweet and versatile, great for snacking, salads, or cooking.
- Carrots: Crunchy and sweet, perfect for juicing, snacking, or cooking.
- Broccoli: A versatile veggie that’s great steamed, roasted, or raw in salads.
A Final Note
Embracing
the local growing season not only supports our local farmers but also
brings a variety of flavors and nutrients to our tables. I encourage you
all to explore these early-season vegetables and enjoy the freshness
that June has to offer.
Stay tuned for more updates as our gardens and markets continue to blossom. Happy eating!
